Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction as an independent risk factor of mortality after cardiothoracic surgery

The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Feb 28, 2018

Nguyen LS, et al. - Researchers sought to assess heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) prognostic value after cardiothoracic surgery, adjusting for EuroSCORE II criteria. In this work, HFpEF was observed to be highly associated with in-hospital mortality. When adjusted for EuroSCORE II, this association remained independent. Compared to control patients, postoperative shock occurred more in HFpEF. It was found to be an independent risk factor of postoperative shock.
