Healthcare resource utilization, expenditures, and productivity in patients with asthma with and without allergies
Journal of Asthma Jul 12, 2019
Sullivan PW, et al. - Using a general asthma population, researchers compared subjects with persistent asthma and evidence of allergy (PA-EA) to those with persistent asthma with no evidence of allergy (PA-NEA) in terms of healthcare resource utilization (HCRU), healthcare expenditures, and work productivity and activity impairment in this retrospective analysis utilizing survey responses and claims from the Observational Study of Asthma Control and Outcomes study. Findings revealed greater HCRU, healthcare expenditures, and lower productivity among patients with PA-EA vs those patients with PA-NEA. In patients with persistent asthma, the burden of atopy was reported in this study, as well as the emphasis was laid on the significance of allergic endotype detection for more vigilant disease management.
