Health-related quality of life of adolescents with sickle cell disease in sub-Saharan Africa: A cross-sectional study

Kambasu DM, et al. - Researchers evaluated 140 children aged 8-17 years with homozygous sickle cell disease (SCD) going to the sickle cell clinic at Mulago Hospital in order to appraise their health-related quality of life (HRQoL). As assessed by caretakers, there were negative correlations of physical HRQoL scores with pain about, whereas a positive correlation was identified between HRQoL scores and pneumococcal vaccine as assessed by adolescents and by caretakers. They identified the positive impact of pneumococcal vaccination on psychosocial functioning as assessed by children and the caretakers.
