Health related quality of life in patients with bronchiolitis obliterans
Pediatric Pulmonology Jun 12, 2020
Atag E, Ikizoglu NB, Ergenekon P, et al. - Given that bronchiolitis obliterans (BO) is mainly caused by infections and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), researchers examined the health‐related quality of life (HRQOL) of children with BO compared with the healthy children and also to evaluate the HRQOL according to the etiology. The study included the post‐infectious (Group‐1) and post‐HSCT BO (Group‐2) patients and healthy children. Associations between demographic and clinical characteristics, pulmonary function tests (PFT), high‐resolution chest tomography scores, and HRQOL have been evaluated. Participants in the study were 37 post‐infectious and post‐HSCT BO patients and 34 healthy children, mean age was 13.8 ± 0.7 years. Compared with healthy children, the HRQOL of patients with BO measured by SF‐36 was low. SF‐36 scores in post-HSCT BO patients were more affected. In managing these patients, the HRQOL of children with chronic lung disease should be taken into account.
