Health related quality of life in chronic liver diseases
Liver International Nov 03, 2020
Cortesi PA, Conti S, Scalone L, et al. - Researchers compared patients with major chronic liver diseases (CLDs) vs the general population, in terms of health‐related quality of life (HRQoL). They found that HRQoL similar to the general population was evident in patients with CLDs (HBV, HCV, PSC, PBC, AIH, NAFLD/NASH) in the chronic hepatitis stage and with compensated cirrhosis. However, issues in self‐care and lower EQ‐5D VAS score were more likely to be seen in AIH, while an increased risk of anxiety/depression was observed in NAFLD/NASH and HCV. Findings revealed that different QoL domains were impacted by different subtypes of CLD. These data thus offer a real estimate of the effect of CLDs on patients’ HRQoL.
