Health-related quality of life, depression, and self-esteem in patients with androgenetic alopecia: A systematic review and meta-analysis
JAMA Aug 23, 2021
Huang CH, Fu Y, Chi CC, et al. - A substantial connection between androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and moderate impairment of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and emotions was discovered in this systematic review and meta-analysis, however, no link was observed with depressive symptoms. According to the research, patients with AGA may require psychological and psychosocial care.
In total, 41 studies were included.
Participants in the study were 7,995 patients.
It was noted that the pooled Dermatology Life Quality Index score was 8.16.
The pooled Hair-Specific Skindex-29 score indicated moderate emotional impairment, with a score of 29.22 in the emotion dimension in the meta-analysis.
The meta-analysis revealed that the pooled Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale score of 14.98 did not indicate depression.
Married or coupled status and receipt of medical treatments had a direct association with HRQOL, whereas higher self-rated hair loss severity, lower visual analog scale score, and higher educational level had an inverse association with HRQOL.
