Health-related quality of life at 30 days among Indian patients with acute myocardial infarction: Results from the ACS QUIK trial
Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes Feb 18, 2019
Huffman MD, et al. - Researchers assessed the quality of life among myocardial infarction survivors in India. In this largest report on this topic, they analyzed data from 1,261 participants in the ACS QUIK trial (Acute Coronary Syndrome Quality Improvement in Kerala). Thirty days post-discharge, they administered a translated, validated version of the Seattle Angina Questionnaire; higher scores indicated better health status. Results were compared across sex, myocardial infarction type, and randomization status. Findings revealed quality of life of participants varied by age, sex, and quality improvement intervention status, and wide variability was seen across hospitals. They observed more angina frequency and physical limitations and lower treatment satisfaction and quality of life among older respondents. Greater physical limitations were experienced by women. High treatment satisfaction was reported via a median (interquartile range [IQR]) score of 81.3, but a median (IQR) score of 66.7, was associated with lower overall quality of life. Higher quality of life was reported in relation to being part of the quality improvement intervention.
