Health benefits of an adverse events reporting system for chronic pain patients using long-term opioids
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Aug 22, 2018
Planelles B, et al. - Researchers proposed a pharmacovigilance data recording system as well as tested its efficacy in improving pain management and in enhancing patient′s health status among chronic non-cancer pain (CNCP) patients using long-term opioids. For 24 months, a pharmacovigilance data recording system was conducted. Outcomes from patients with (case) or without (controls) suspected adverse drug reactions and cases follow-up were also compared with Spanish Pharmacovigilance System data. Findings demonstrated that achieving a better control of CNCP pharmacological pain therapy, improving patient's health status and reducing costs to the Health System, was possible by considering the important information offered by the tested data recording system.
