Harmful effects of exercise intensity and exercise duration in patients with arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy
JACC: Clinical Electrophysiology Jun 22, 2018
Lie OH, et al. - Given that vigorous exercise aggravates and accelerates arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (AC), researchers examined the link between exercise duration and exercise intensity and adverse outcomes in patients with AC. Standardized interviews were conducted to gauge exercise habits at time of diagnosis. High-intensity exercise was defined as exercise >6 metabolic equivalents. Exercise duration was categorized as long if above the median. Findings demonstrated that independent of exercise duration, high-intensity exercise was identified as a robust and independent marker of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmia in AC patients. Exercise intensity restriction could be recommended for AC patients.
