HANDOC: A handy score to determine the need for echocardiography in non-β-hemolytic streptococcal bacteremia
Clinical Infectious Diseases Feb 21, 2018
Sunnerhagen T, et al. - Given the potential of non-β-hemolytic streptococci (NBHS) in causing infective endocarditis (IE), researchers here aim to assess the patients with NBHS bacteremia who should undergo echocardiography to diagnose IE. For this work, they constructed the HANDOC score and identified it to have the potential for identifying patients with NBHS bacteremia who had a risk of IE so low that echocardiography could be omitted. Its implementation thus could reduce the use of echocardiography.
