Habitual sleep as a contributor to racial differences in cardiometabolic risk

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America Aug 30, 2017

Curtis DS, et al. – The degree to which sleep variations among black/African American (AA) and white/European American (EA) adults elucidated the racial differences in cardiometabolic (CMB) disease risk was explored in this study. The data displayed that indirect effects were robust to alternative model specifications that excluded individuals with diabetes or heart disease. Hence, sleep determinants and sleep health had to be taken into account to reduce racial differences in CMB disease.
