Habitual intake of dietary l-arginine in relation to risk of type 2 diabetes: A prospective study
BMC Endocrine Disorders Jun 04, 2021
Mirmiran P, Bahadoran Z, Gaeini Z, et al. - Researchers undertook this cohort study to determine the potential influence of dietary L-arginine on the type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) incidence. From Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study, a total of 2,139 T2DM-free adults were selected for this analysis. Participants were observed for approximately 5.8 years. Employing a validated food frequency questionnaire with 168 food item, estimation of daily intakes of protein and L-arginine was done. According to findings, not only an elevated risk of T2DM may be conferred by higher dietary L-arginine levels but also it possibly plays an independent role in T2DM development.
