Heart, Lung, and Circulation Mar 24, 2018
Jackson N, et al. - In this randomised trial, the incidence of vascular access site complications was assessed in patients who were referred for electrophysiology procedures and were randomized to either 10-minutes of manual pressure or a purse string suture (PSS) over the femoral vein. An easy to perform PSS was shown to be as effective at achieving haemostasis as 10-minutes of manual pressure for catheter ablation procedures. Relative to manual pressure, PSS was considerably faster to perform and was more comfortable for patients.
