Grain subtype and the combination of grains consumed are associated with the risk of metabolic syndrome: Analysis of a community-based prospective cohort
The Journal of Nutrition Aug 30, 2019
Kang Y, et al. - Using data from a community-based prospective cohort study, researchers examined the connection between grain intake by subtype or various combinations of grain intake and the risk of developing the metabolic syndrome (MetS) in South Korean adults. In total, 5,717 candidates (aged 40 to 69 years) without MetS were followed up for 10 years (2001–2012). A total of 2,218 candidates developed MetS. According to findings, higher whole grain consumption was correlated with a lower risk of MetS incident, while higher refined-grain consumption was related to higher risk in middle-aged and older Korean populations.
