Graft reduction surgery is associated with poorer outcome after lung transplantation: A single-center propensity score-matched analysis
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery May 26, 2021
Montoya P, Bello I, Ascanio F, et al. - In order to determine the outcomes of lung volume-reduction procedures post lung transplant, researchers herein compared patients with a non-reduced-size lung transplant and those with a reduced-size lung transplant (RT). Among 366 consecutive adult lung transplants carried out between January 2014 and December 2018 at one single center, they conducted propensity score analysis matching 41 patients in each group. Outcomes revealed association of graft reduction surgery in lung transplant recipients with lower pulmonary function and poorer overall survival. However, because of this procedure, transplantation is possible in prioritized recipients for whom it might otherwise be impossible to find an organ of suitable size.
