Graft choice for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with a concomitant non-surgically treated medial collateral ligament injury does not influence the risk of revision
Arthroscopy Sep 22, 2019
Svantesson E, Senorski EH, Östergaard M, et al. - The risk of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) revision and the patient-reported outcome following ACL reconstruction with a concomitant non-surgically treated medial collateral ligament injury were compared concerning 3 ACL graft choices; the use of semitendinosus (ST), the use of semitendinosus-gracilis (ST-G), and the use of patellar tendon (PT) autograft. Researchers hypothesized a greater risk of ACL revision and poorer patient-reported knee function in correlation with the use of ST-G. From the Swedish National Knee Ligament Registry, they identified 622 eligible patients (mean age 29.7 years, 42.4% women) for inclusion and grouped them into 3 according to ACL autograft choice; the ST, the ST-G, and the PT group. Observations revealed no difference in the risk of ACL revision between HT and PT autografts in these patients. However, the use of ST-G vs using the ST was associated with poorer 2-year patient-reported knee function.
