Gout and the risk of myocardial infarction in older adults: A study of Medicare recipients
Arthritis Research & Therapy Jun 09, 2018
Singh JA, et al. - Authors assessed if gout was related to a higher risk of incident myocardial infarction (MI) in older adults (aged 65 years or older). Findings suggested an independent association of gout with a higher risk of MI in the elderly. Gout was significantly associated with a higher hazard of incident MI (HR of 2.08), in multivariable-adjusted analyses. Attenuation of risk was minimal in sensitivity analyses that replaced the continuous Charlson–Romano index score with a categorical score or individual comorbidities or expanding to a more sensitive diagnostic algorithm for incident MI, or additionally adjusting for obesity.
