GOG 244 - The LymphEdema and Gynecologic cancer (LEG) study: The association between the Gynecologic Cancer Lymphedema Questionnaire (GCLQ) and lymphedema of the lower extremity (LLE)
Gynecologic Oncology Nov 12, 2019
Carter J, Huang HQ, Armer J, et al. - Among patients with endometrial, cervical, or vulvar cancer treated with radical surgery, including lymphadenectomy, on Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) study 244, an inquiry into the possibility of a link between patient-reported lymphedema-associated symptoms, as measured by the Gynecologic Cancer Lymphedema Questionnaire (GCLQ), and a patient-reported diagnosis of lymphedema of the lower extremity (LLE) and limb volume change (LVC) was performed. Eligible patients were 987 in total, of these, evaluable were 894 (endometrial, 719; cervical, 136; vulvar, 39). An LLE diagnosis was reported by 14% of these patients (endometrial, 11%; cervical, 18%; vulvar, 38%). Findings revealed that patient-reported symptoms, as measured by the GCLQ, enabled the discernment of those with and without a patient-reported LLE diagnosis and showed predictive value. An improved ability to detect LLE may be achieved by integrating GCLQ with LVC.
