Gluten intake and risk of psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis and atopic dermatitis among US women
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Aug 14, 2019
Drucker AM, et al. - Because correlations are poorly understood between gluten intake and psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and atopic dermatitis, researchers determined the relation of increased gluten with the aforementioned health conditions. Using food frequency questionnaires, gluten content of participants’ diet was calculated every 4 years (1991–2015 for psoriatic disease, 1995–2013 for atopic dermatitis). The study sample included 85,185 individuals in the psoriasis analysis, 85,324 in the psoriatic arthritis analysis, and 63,443 in the atopic dermatitis analysis. The multivariable HRs were 1.15 for psoriasis, 1.12 for psoriatic arthritis, and 0.91 for atopic dermatitis compared with the highest and lowest quintiles of gluten intake. In adult women, the amount of dietary gluten intake as a risk factor for psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, or atopic dermatitis was not supported.
