Glucose screening in pregnancy and future risk of cardiovascular disease in women: A retrospective, population-based cohort study
The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology Apr 21, 2019
Retnakaran R, et al. - Using data from health-care administrative databases from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care of Ontario (Canada), researchers conducted a population-based cohort study to see if future risk of cardiovascular disease (a composite of hospitalization for myocardial infarction, acute coronary syndrome, stroke, coronary artery bypass grafting, percutaneous coronary intervention, or carotid endarterectomy) in pregnant women without gestational diabetes could be found with glucose screening. In this examination, 259,164 women were identified as eligible (13,609 women with gestational diabetes and 245,555 women without gestational diabetes). According to results, the link between gestational glycemia and ensuing cardiovascular disease risk extends to the range of normoglycemia, so the future risk of cardiovascular disease in women without gestational diabetes may be found with glucose screening during pregnancy.
