Glucose metabolism after pancreatectomy: Opposite extremes between pancreaticoduodenectomy and distal pancreatectomy
Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism Jan 28, 2021
Niwano F, Babaya N, Hiromine Y, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for analyzing the changes in patients’ glucose metabolism and endocrine and exocrine function before and after partial pancreatectomy relative to different resection types (Kindai Prospective Study on Metabolism and Endocrinology after Pancreatectomy: KIP-MEP study). A series of 278 consecutive patients with scheduled pancreatectomy were registered into the prospective study. Of them, 109 diabetes-free individuals undergoing partial pancreatectomy were investigated. Blood glucose levels following the OGTT varied significantly between PD and DP populations. The discrepancies between PD and DP observed indicate the significance of individualization after partial pancreatectomy in the management of metabolism and nutrition.
