Glucose impairments and insulin resistance in prostate cancer: The role of obesity, nutrition and exercise
Obesity Reviews Jul 20, 2018
Di Sebastiano KM, et al. - Using an integrative approach, researchers characterized how insulin, glucose metabolism, obesity and prostate cancer interact, as well as the potential role of nutrition and exercise. Study findings suggested that independently assessing changes in glucose metabolism near the time of prostate cancer diagnosis and during long-term androgen deprivation therapy treatment was essential to identify their unique contributions to the development of metabolic disturbances. They found that obesity and metabolic syndrome were correlated with prostate cancer development and inferior outcomes for cancer survivors, which could be driven by hyperinsulinemia, pro-inflammation, hyperleptinemia and/or hypoadiponectinemia.
