Glucosamine and chondroitin supplements and risk of colorectal adenoma and serrated polyp
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Oct 28, 2020
Lee DH, Cao C, Zong X, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate the relationship between the use of glucosamine and chondroitin supplements and colorectal adenomas and serrated polyps. Researchers recruited a total of 43,163 persons from the Nurses' Health Study, Health Professionals Follow-up Study, and Nurses' Health Study 2 who reported glucosamine/chondroitin use in 2002 and who ultimately had ≥ 1 lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. In this study, OR and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated by using multivariable logistic regression for clustered data. The findings revealed that in older adults, glucosamine/chondroitin use was correlated with lower risks of high-risk and overall conventional adenoma; this relationship did not hold in younger women, or for serrated polyps.
