Broberg BV, et al. - Researchers planned a Danish nationwide study to assess the association between glucocorticoid treatment and risk of schizophrenia spectrum disorder in childhood and adolescence. They observed an increased risk for psychotic disorders in association with glucocorticoid exposure, which could be explained by an effect of the underlying somatic disease, such as asthma. The risk of psychosis was elevated the most within the first year after exposure to glucocorticoids without any indication for a dose-response association.
