Global, regional, and country-level coverage of interventions to prevent and manage HIV and hepatitis C among people who inject drugs: A systematic review
The Lancet Global Health Nov 16, 2017
Larney S, et al. - This systematic review was performed to produce country-level, regional, and global estimates of coverage of needle and syringe programmes (NSP), opioid substitution therapy (OST), HIV testing, antiretroviral therapy (ART), and condom programmes for people who inject drugs (PWID). The researchers revealed that for PWID, coverage of HIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV) prevention interventions remained poor and was likely to be insufficient to effectively prevent HIV and HCV transmission. For halting the HIV and HCV epidemics, scaling up of interventions for PWID remained a crucial priority.
