Geographic and demographic features of neuroendocrine tumors in the United States of America: A population-based study
Cancer Feb 03, 2020
Gosain R, Ball S, Rana N, et al. - Researchers sought to determine how geographic and sociodemographic characteristics shape outcomes in the neuroendocrine tumor (NET) population via performing a retrospective analysis using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database, and studying 53,034 NET patients (5,517 in rural areas [RA] and 47,517 in urban areas [UA]) from 1973 to 2015. Both RAs and UAs exhibited increasing incidence of NETs but RAs showed a more rapid increase. In the multivariable model, RA patients had a trend toward poorer overall survival in comparison with UA patients. In the multivariable analysis, significantly worse disease-specific survival and overall survival were observed for uninsured, single, and male patients in comparison with insured, married, and female patients, respectively.
