Genome-wide association studies identify susceptibility loci for epithelial ovarian cancer in East Asian women
Gynecologic Oncology Apr 28, 2019
Lawrenson K, et al. - In Asian women, the common germline variants related to epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) risk were investigated in this study. In 3238 Asian subjects diagnosed with invasive or borderline EOC and 4083 unaffected controls, researchers performed genotyping on 533,631 SNPs. The risk of serous EOC and high-grade serous EOC (HGSOC) was evident in relation to SNP rs7748275 at chromosome 6p25.2. At chromosome 20q11.22, rs74272064 was related to HGSOC risk. Findings revealed an association of overall EOC risk with rs10260419 at chromosome 7p21.3 and rs74917072 at chromosome 2q37.3. They observed sharing of some risk loci between East Asian and European populations, other risk loci were found to be population-specific. This implies the presence of both shared and unique features in the landscape of EOC risk in Asian women, compared to women of European ancestry.
