Genetic association of major depression with atypical features and obesity-related immunometabolic dysregulations
JAMA Psychiatry Oct 24, 2017
Milaneschi Y, et al. - This trial ascertained if subgroups of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) stratified according to the appetite and/or weight (A/W) criterion dispalyed a different degree of genetic overlap with obesity-related traits (body mass index [BMI] and levels of C-reactive protein [CRP] and leptin). It was reported that the phenotypic correlations between atypical depressive symptoms and obesity-related traits could surface from shared pathophysiologic mechanisms in patients with MDD. An advantage could be gained through the development of treatments effectively targeting immunometabolic dysregulations, among patients with depression and obesity, both syndromes with a significant disability.
