Genetic association between adiposity and gout: A Mendelian randomization study
Rheumatology Aug 09, 2018
Larsson SC, et al. - Authors used Mendelian randomization to gauge if overall obesity (measured by BMI) and abdominal obesity (measured by waist-to-hip ratio adjusted for BMI) were related to gout risk and serum urate concentrations. Findings suggested the probability that overall obesity is a risk factor for gout and is correlated with higher serum urate concentrations. They noted an association between each standard deviation (about 4.6 kg/m2) increase in genetically predicted BMI with odds ratio of gout of 2.24 and with a 0.30 mg/dl increase in serum urate concentrations.
