Genetic and clinicopathologic characteristics of lung adenocarcinoma with tumor “Spread Through Air Spaces”
Lung Cancer Jul 23, 2018
Lee JS, et al. - Researchers conducted a comprehensive analysis on 316 surgically resected lung adenocarcinoma cases to examine genetic and clinicopathologic features of lung adenocarcinoma with “Spread Through Air Spaces (STAS).” Tumor cells within air spaces in the lung parenchyma beyond the edge of the main tumor were defined as tumor STAS. They found a link between STAS and certain pathological and molecular subtypes. Findings suggested that STAS might be a parameter for tumor aggressiveness. They also observed a strong association of STAS with poor prognostic factors and recurrence, including to extrathoracic sites.
