Generalizing age effects on brain structure and cognition: A two-study comparison approach

Human Brain Mapping Jan 27, 2019

Jockwitz C, et al. - Authors assessed the data measured by using cortical thickness [CT] in 2 large independent samples, each consisting of 228 healthy elders of aged 65-85 years: the Longitudinal Healthy Aging Brain (LHAB) database (University of Zurich, Switzerland) and the 1000BRAINS (Research Centre Julich, Germany, to study the age-related variations on cognitive abilities and brain structure. They observed cognitive factors like processing speed, concept shifting, reasoning, verbal fluency, and vocabulary whereas measurement of brain structure was performed by global and regional CT. They observed that candidates from LHAB exhibited better performance as compared to another group in all psychometric tests assessed with respect to cognitive abilities. They noted stable performance in the vocabulary tests across the ages in both groups.
