Generalized seizures presurgically in a cohort of children with hemispherectomy: Predictors and a potential link to surgical outcome?
Seizure - European Journal of Epilepsy Apr 05, 2018
Liu M, et al. - Experts gauged the predictors of generalized seizures as well as their potential correlation with the seizure outcomes in a cohort of children who underwent hemispherectomy. The children with hemispherectomy were dichotomized into 2 groups with and without generalized seizures confirmed by vEEG presurgically. Data did not reveal any link between generalized seizures and unfavourable postoperative seizure outcome. Hence, it was inferred that generalized seizures were not an absolute contraindication of candidate selection for hemispherectomy. It was noted that individuals with electrical status epilepticus during sleep (ESES) possibly experienced generalized seizures presurgically. Furthermore, findings displayed that focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures and myoclonic-atonic seizures could be related to unfavourable outcomes for different seizure types.
