Gene expression profiling and heterogeneity of nonspecific orbital inflammation affecting the lacrimal gland
JAMA Ophthalmology Nov 15, 2017
Rosenbaum JT, et al. - The proposition examined herein was that gene expression profiles would complement clinical and histopathologic evaluations in determining the well-characterized diseases and in subdividing nonspecific orbital inflammation (NSOI) into clinically relevant groups. This profiling revealed clear heterogeneity among patients with the lacrimal inflammatory disease. A comparative analysis of the expression profiles indicated that a subset of patients with nonspecific dacryoadenitis could present with a limited form of sarcoidosis. Other patients with NSOI, however, could not be distinguished from healthy controls.
