Gender-specific estimates of COPD prevalence: A systematic review and meta-analysis
International Journal of COPD May 18, 2018
Ntritsos G, et al. - Researchers investigated the global prevalence of COPD in men and women and assessed as well as synthesize the available evidence among population-based epidemiologic studies. In this largest-ever systematic review and meta-analysis on this topic and the first large gender-specific review, COPD was acknowledged as a critical woman’s health issue. A wide variation was reported for gender prevalences by the World Health Organization Global Burden of Disease subregions. In North America and in participants in urban settings, the highest female prevalence was found. Across studies, prevalence estimates were found to be heterogeneous, for which age ≥40 and bronchodilator testing contributed most significantly, as revealed by meta-regression.
