Gender-specific association of BMI change with stroke in middle-aged and older adults with type 2 diabetes
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Jul 28, 2021
Cui C, Wu Z, Shi Y, et al. - This study attempted to explore the relationship between BMI change and stroke in middle-aged and older adults with type 2 diabetes and distinguish gender differences. Researchers designed a China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study that was an ongoing national population-based cohort study including participants aged 45 or above with type 2 diabetes and followed for stroke incidence. A total of 1,774 participants were included in this study (mean [SD] age in 2011, 60.23 [8.88] years), 795 (44.8%) were men. There is a gender-specific relationship of BMI change with stroke among middle-aged and older adults with type 2 diabetes. In men, an increase in BMI could result in a higher risk of incident stroke.
