Gender-related patterns of psychiatric disorder clustering among bariatric surgery candidates: A latent class analysis
Journal of Affective Disorders Jul 20, 2018
Duarte-Guerra LS, et al. - For this investigation, a consecutive sample of 393 candidates with obesity in a university-based bariatric center was enrolled to identify homogeneous clusters of concurrent psychiatric disorders among patients seeking bariatric surgery, by gender. It was observed that pre-surgical men and women with severe obesity were distributed in three comorbidity profiles and revealed analogous psychopathological patterns. Findings revealed that substance use disorders were prominent among “bipolar” men. Clustering of psychiatric disorders might suggest different therapeutics and outcomes. Researchers found that most patients seeking bariatric surgery present concurrent psychiatric disorders.
