Gender is not a predictor of mortality or major adverse cardiovascular events in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention for acute coronary syndromes

Heart, Lung, and Circulation Apr 10, 2018

Josiah A, et al. - Whether contemporary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) techniques for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) eliminate gender differences in PCI outcomes, was investigated in this retrospective study. Primary outcomes studied were major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and death at 1-year. In both men and women who underwent PCI between January 2008 and July 2015 similar PCI success was reported. No gender difference in mortality or MACE at 1-year was observed when contemporary PCI techniques were applied equally to men and women with ACS.
