Bendels MHK, et al. – The authors performed this study to explain the state of gender equality in epilepsy research, examining the representation of female authorships from 2008 to 2016. They concluded that in the scientific field of epilepsy, the integration of women was advanced. However, a dichotomy was present: There was an apparent lack of female research leaders although the current system promoted early career steps. This structural imbalance was expected to grow in the next decade because of the consistently high increase of female early career researchers.
