Gender disparities in first medical contact and delay in ST-elevation myocardial infarction: A prospective multicentre Swedish survey study
BMJ Open May 09, 2018
Lawesson SS, et al. - Experts compared gender disparities in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) regarding first medical contact (FMC) and prehospital delay times. They also analyzed the factors linked with a prehospital delay in men and women separately. Data disclosed that women in STEMI differed from men regarding FMC and they had longer delays. This was partially attributed to atypical symptoms and a longer decision time. Results also revealed that bystanders responded more quickly when men fell ill compared to women. It was determined that the public knowledge of myocardial infarction symptoms and how to act properly appeared to still be insufficient.
