Gender differences in Twitter use and influence among health policy and health services researchers
JAMA Oct 23, 2019
Zhu JM, et al. - Given the lower visibility and success of women vs men in realm of academic medicine, researchers investigated gender differences in Twitter use, as well as influence among health services researchers. They noted that social media platforms like Twitter can provide academics opportunities to disseminate their research, network professionally, gain visibility, and thus foster opportunities for career advancement. These opportunities are especially critical in the fields of health policy and health services research, in which the exposure and circulation of policy-relevant research and engagement with healthcare decision-makers has an effect on academic influence, recognition, and promotion.
