Gender differences after coronary artery bypass grafting with a second arterial conduit
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Jun 05, 2020
Rubens FD, Wells GA, Coutinho T, et al. - Given the association of double arterial conduit use during coronary artery bypass grafting with improved clinical outcomes compared with single arterial conduits in the general population, researchers here examined the gender-specific outcomes of this strategy via conducting a population-based, retrospective cohort study. Between October 2008 and September 2017, a total of 9,135 women and 36,748 men underwent coronary artery bypass grafting with single arterial conduits or double arterial conduits among Ontarians. Outcomes revealed better medium-term survival and cardiovascular outcomes in both genders in correlation with double arterial conduit. Among women, double arterial conduits are associated with increased perioperative risk, but with greater medium-term benefit than men.
