Gender-based outcome differences for Emergency Department presentation of non-STEMI acute coronary syndrome
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine May 14, 2018
Langabeer JR, et al. - Authors sought to assess the contemporary gender differences in non-STEMI acute coronary syndrome, particularly those presenting to Emergency Departments within a regionalized system of care with standardized protocols. Women were noted to exhibit higher unadjusted in-hospital mortality rates than men, which persisted after controlling for patient age, comorbidities, and hospital factors. Women also had 23min longer ED lengths of stay and were much less likely to receive an early invasive strategy than men. They recommended considering these potential gender disparities that exist for women in Emergency Department NSTEMI protocols.
