Gastrostomy in the era of minimally invasive head and neck cancer surgery

Frenkel CH, et al. – The physicians performed this research to determine the incidence of intra– and postoperative gastrostomy following robotic resection of advanced head and neck disease. They explained that in head and neck cancer patients with advanced disease, impaired oral intake was a significant postoperative burden, even in the era of minimally invasive transoral robotic surgery (TORS). Special strategies focusing on patient risk factors would probably aid in identifying patients benefiting from early gastrostomy tube (GT).
