Gastrointestinal cancer survival and radiation exposure among atomic bomb survivors: The Life Span Study
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Dec 16, 2020
Bockwoldt B, Sugiyama H, Tsai K, et al. - By analyzing participants in the Life Span Study of atomic bomb survivors who received a diagnosis of a first primary invasive stomach, colon, or rectal cancer between 1958 and 2009 were observed for mortality during 1958–2014, researchers herein examined the link between prediagnostic radiation exposure and survival following cancer diagnosis. This analysis involved 7,728 eligible patients with cancer. Findings although revealed increased risk of gastrointestinal cancer incidence and mortality in correlation with radiation exposure, study findings are inconclusive regarding a link between prediagnostic radiation exposure and survival following gastrointestinal cancer diagnosis.
