Gastroesophageal reflux disease increases the risk of chronic rhinosinusitis: A nested case-control study using a national sample cohort
International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology Mar 21, 2019
Kim SY, et al. - To quantify the associations between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) in a Korean population, researchers estimated 23,489 CRS candidates matched with 93,956 controls between 2002 and 2013. Using the International Classification of Diseases 10th edition (ICD-10) codes (J32), they involved the cases treated CRS ≥2 times and undergone head and neck computed tomography (CT). They observed a higher rate of GERD in the CRS group (17.1%) as compared to the control group (9.1%). They reported the adjusted OR of GERD of 2.04 in the CRS group.
