Gastric sub-epithelial tumors: Identification of gastrointestinal stromal tumors using CT with a practical scoring method
Gastric Cancer Dec 13, 2018
Liu M, et al. - A sum of 64 subjects with gastric sub-epithelial tumors (SETs) for primary analysis and 92 for a validation cohort, to identify gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) among SETs in CT and to explore a practical scoring method, were examined. A GIST-risk scoring method was developed by comparing clinical and CT features of GISTs vs non-GISTs groups. Older age (> 49 years), non-cardial location, irregular margin, lower attenuation on unenhanced images (≤ 43 HU), heterogeneous enhancement, necrosis, and absence of enlarged lymph nodes were significantly indicative of GISTs. The established scoring method at validation step with cut-off score dichotomized into ≥ 4 vs < 4 to distinguish GISTs from non-GISTs showed an AUC of 0.97 with an accuracy of 92%, a negative predictive value (NPV) of 100% and a sensitivity of 100%.
