Gallstones and cholecystectomy in relation to risk of liver cancer

Wang Y, et al. - Researchers undertook this meta-analysis of observational studies to assess the role of gallstones or cholecystectomy in primary liver cancer. They analyzed a total of 14 studies (4 case–control, 10 cohort) and noted a significantly increased risk of liver cancer among patients with gallstones or cholecystectomy. However, they also noted that the biological mechanisms underlying the link still require further elucidation.
