Gallstone disease and type 2 diabetes risk: A Mendelian randomization study
Hepatology Dec 11, 2018
Wang F, et al. - Using a Mendelian randomization analysis, researchers investigated the potential causal relationship between gallstone disease (GSD) and type 2 diabetes risk in this observational study. Study participants included 16,299 individuals free of cancer, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes who were enrolled in the Dongfeng-Tongji cohort study. From 2008-2013, a full 1,110 incident type 2 diabetes cases were documented during 73,895 person-years of follow-up. Overall, they observed a positive—but not a causal—association of GSD with type 2 diabetes risk in this study population.
