Gabapentin improves symptoms of functional dyspepsia in a retrospective, open-label cohort study

Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology Apr 17, 2019

Staller K, et al. - Among an observational cohort of patients, investigators determined the effectiveness of gabapentin in the treatment of functional dyspepsia. Pregabapentin and postgabapentin surveys were completed by 62 patients with functional dyspepsia out of 110 patients enrolled. Data reported that the mean Patient Assessment of Gastrointestinal Disorders-Symptom Severity Index score of subjects decreased by 0.44 with significant changes in all subscales (including upper abdominal pain, lower abdominal pain, postprandial fullness) except bloating. Overall, in a retrospective, open-label cohort of patients treated with gabapentin for functional dyspepsia, they concluded that significant improvements were observed in dyspeptic symptoms interpreted within the limits of open-label study design.
