Fruits and vegetables intake and gastric cancer risk: A pooled analysis within the Stomach cancer Pooling Project
International Journal of Cancer Jul 04, 2020
Ferro A, Costa AR, Morais S, et al. - This study was designed to determine the risk of gastric cancer in correlation with intake of fruits and vegetables, to complement a prior work on the link between intake of citrus fruits and gastric cancer. For this purpose, data were utilized from 25 studies, including 8,456 cases and 21,133 controls, with information regarding fruits and/or vegetables consumption. A lower risk of gastric cancer was reported in correlation with a higher consumption of fruits, noncitrus fruits, vegetables, and fruits and vegetables; findings were identified to be consistent across sociodemographic and lifestyles categories, as well as study features. Overall, findings corroborated that all fruits, noncitrus fruits and vegetables confer a protective effect, and thereby these results lend support to further dietary recommendations to attenuate the burden of gastric cancer.
